The Scottish Premiership is Scotland’s highest division of men’s professional club football, organised by the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). Established in its current form in 2013, with the Scottish top-flight championship dating back to 1890, the league features 12 clubs competing in a 38-match season, playing each other three times before splitting into top-six and bottom-six groups for five additional fixtures. The competition determines the Scottish national champion, qualification places for UEFA club competitions and relegation to the second-tier Scottish Championship, with the bottom two teams facing automatic relegation or a relegation playoff.
