The UEFA Nations League is a biennial competition for UEFA’s men’s national teams, created to replace many international friendlies with competitive matches between similarly ranked countries. Teams are divided into leagues with promotion and relegation between levels, while League A determines the overall champion. From 2024–25, its group winners and runners-up advance to two-legged quarter-finals before the Nations League Finals, and additional promotion/relegation play-offs were introduced between leagues. The competition is also linked to qualification pathways for the European Championship and World Cup, giving Nations League results significance beyond the tournament itself.
