The UEFA Europa League is an annual club football competition organised since 1971 by the UEFA for eligible European clubs. It is the second-tier competition of European club football, ranking below the UEFA Champions League and above the UEFA Conference League. Introduced in 1971 as the UEFA Cup, it replaced the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. The competition took its current name in 2009, following a format change that included a merger with the UEFA Intertoto Cup, expanding the group stage and altering qualification. In 2024–25, the group stage was replaced by a 36-team league phase. Winners of the UEFA Europa League qualify for the following season’s UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Champions League.
