Nicolas Cage returns as Ben Gates, treasure hunter and latter-day Indiana Jones, in this star-studded sequel to 2004’s National Treasure. This time the implausible plot finds him searching for a fabled lost City of Gold and trying to clear his family’s name after an ancestor is implicated in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Following the clues again are his father Patrick (Jon Voight), National Archive curator and now ex-girlfriend Abigail (Diane Kruger) and geeky sidekick Riley (Justin Bartha). Newcomer to the cast Helen Mirren brings an element of comedy to the proceedings as Ben’s mother, a linguistics expert. With intriguing puzzles, interesting locations (including our own Buckingham Palace), and stunning set pieces, the film delivers plenty of excitement and fun - enough to make you overlook some distinctly hammy acting by Cage and Voight.
